Recommendation
Receive a presentation from San Jose Parks Foundation on the Trash Free Coyote Creek Cleanup and Surveillance Project and Education and Outreach Project that received District funding during the Fiscal Year (FY) 2014 grant cycle.

SUMMARY:
On Feb 25, 2014, the Board authorized funding for 15 grant projects, including two projects proposed by San Jose Parks Foundation. The Trash Free Coyote Creek Cleanup and Surveillance project was funded under the Project B3 Pollution Prevention, and the Trash Free Coyote Creek Education and Outreach Project was funded under the Project B7 Support Volunteer Clean-up Efforts and Education through the District’s Safe, Clean Water and Natural Flood Protection Program . These two projects received a total of $68,982 grant funds. Together with funding or contributions from other partners, the San Jose Parks Foundation removed 81,000 pounds of trash through fourteen cleanups. In addition, the San Jose Parks Foundation held a day-long Coyote Creek Howl conference, and made 32 presentations to community organizations, and participated in 14 community events. Attachments 1 and 2 showcase key features of the trash cleanups and pollution prevention education efforts.
As stipulated in the grant agreement, the grantee is required to provide a project completion presentation to the Board. The San Jose Parks Foundation staff will provide a 10-minute presentation to the Board on the project accomplishments and benefits.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
No financial impact. The San Jose Parks Foundation entered an agreement with the District for the cleanup and surveillance project in an amount of $26,783, and for the education and outreach project for the amount of $42,199. Grant funds have been disbursed to the San Jose Parks Foundation.
CEQA:
The recommended action does not constitute a project under CEQA because it does not have potential for resulting in direct or reasonably foreseeable indirect physical changes in the environment. Specific projects being discussed have undergone CEQA review.
