RECOMMENDATION:
Recommendation
That the Board consider the following recommendations by the Santa Clara Valley Water District Youth Commission:

A. Participate in the pilot Mural Art Project and approve proposed location for the pilot mural (Blossom Hill Annex); and
B. Become an annual sponsor for the Synopsys Championship Science Fair's Special Awards (up to $5,000).

SUMMARY:
The Santa Clara Valley Water District Youth Commission met on February 24, 2021, and made the following recommendations for Board consideration:

Action #1:
The Youth Commission by roll call and unanimous vote approved Staff's recommendation: That the Board of Directors consider approving the Youth Commission's participation in the pilot Mural Art Project; and approve the location for the pilot mural at the Blossom Hill Annex building at 1020 Blossom Hill Road, San Jose, CA.

Staff Analysis #1:
Staff concurs with the Youth Commission's recommendation and ask that the Board consider approving the request. The purpose of this request is to pilot a mural artwork project with the Youth Commission and the local artist, Paul J. Gonzalez, to beautify Valley Water infrastructure with artwork that would convey Valley Water's mission. The budget of $25,000 has been allocated for this project (Project #60171002 - Education and Volunteer Program) and staff approximates it will take 600 staff hours to complete.
