Body

SUMMARY:

Santa Clara Valley Water District (Valley Water) has been a participating member of the American Public Works Association (APWA) for over 40 years. Valley Water staff and retirees have served on the board of the local APWA South Bay Area Chapter and have volunteered their time in support of APWA activities.

Instituted as a public education campaign by APWA in 1960, National Public Works Week calls attention to the importance of public works in community life. It celebrates the tens of thousands of public service professionals across North America who provide and maintain the infrastructure and services collectively known as public works.

APWA is encouraging all member agencies to designate May 17-23, 2026, as National Public Works Week. “Rooted in Service, Powered by Community” is the theme of this year’s campaign. APWA National encourages all chapters to highlight the importance of public works to the well-being of our communities. Valley Water has supported this effort by issuing an annual proclamation recognizing National Public Works Week for the past decade. This proclamation presents an opportunity for Valley Water to support APWA’s mission and raise awareness of the essential role public works plays in our quality of life.

Attachment 1 is the proposed Board resolution supporting the proclamation. Attachment 2 includes the APWA poster for this year’s theme.
