Adopt the RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING OCTOBER 2025 AS NATIONAL BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH.

SUMMARY:
The Human Resources Division recommends that the Board formally acknowledge and declare October 2025 as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM), an annual campaign organized by breast cancer charities to increase awareness around breast cancer and to raise funds for research.
What is Breast Cancer?
Breast cancer is a disease in which malignant (cancer) cells form in the tissues of the breast.

Educating women on what they can do to be proactive with their breast health, knowledge, and early detection saves lives.
Early Detection
According to the American Cancer Society, when breast cancer is detected early and is in the localized stage, the 5-year relative survival rate is 99%. Early detection includes doing monthly breast self-exams and scheduling regular clinical breast exams and mammograms.
