SUMMARY:
This Resolution provides the Board an opportunity to express appreciation to Dan McCorquodale for his dedicated years of public service in Santa Clara County and the State of California.
The Honorable Dan McCorquodale was first elected to serve in the California State Legislature in 1982, representing the 12th Senate District, which then comprised a large portion of Santa Clara County-including north, east and central San Jose, the Cities of Campbell, Milpitas, Morgan Hill-and all of Stanislaus County. Following redistricting, he represented all of Stanislaus, Merced, Madera, Tuolumne and Madera Counties as well as portions of San Joaquin and Fresno Counties. He was reelected in 1986 and again in 1990.
During his tenure in the Legislature, Senator McCorquodale was Chair of the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Water Resources as well as the Senate Committee on Natural Resources and Wildlife. He authored legislation with far-reaching importance in several areas including revamping the State Water Plan, water reclamation, natural resource conservation, consumer protection, securities regulation, local governmental revenue, and the humane treatment of animals.
Senator McCorquodale was also a member of the Pacific Fisheries Legislative Task Force and in 1993 and 1994, chaired this group of representatives from five western states to serve as a clearinghouse for information regarding fishing in the Pacific Ocean. Follow...
