Adopt the Resolution DECLARING MARCH 2023 AS IRISH AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH.

SUMMARY:
The Office of Racial Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (REDI) recommends that the Board formally acknowledge and declare March 2023 as Irish American Heritage Month, a federal designation.
The US President and congress first proclaimed Irish American Heritage Month in 1991. March was chosen to acknowledge and honor the contributions of Irish immigrants and their descendants in the United States because it coincides with a major Irish observance, St. Patrick’s Day, celebrated on March 17.
By adopting this resolution, the Santa Clara Valley Water District honors the contributions of Irish immigrants and Irish Americans. Valley Water will coordinate acknowledgment of Irish American Heritage Month through the Office of Racial Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.
