RECOMMENDATION:
Recommendation
A. Receive information on the Bay Area Council Foundation's California Resilience Challenge; and
B. Approve the request for sponsorship in the amount of $25,000.

SUMMARY:
The Bay Area Council (BAC) Foundation is requesting sponsorship of the 2024 California Resilience Challenge (Challenge), which is a statewide initiative to build local climate resilience in under-resourced communities and support a shared vision for a resilient California in the face of ever-increasing climate threats. The Challenge brings together businesses, utilities, non-profit organizations, and a diverse array of environmental and community leaders, to develop a pipeline of climate adaptation projects across the state to strengthen local and regional resilience to heat, drought, floods, and wildfire. Santa Clara Valley Water District (Valley Water) has participated as an annual sponsor since 2021.
The Challenge was formed to fund comprehensive, statewide projects that reflect California's extraordinary geographic, economic, environmental, and cultural diversity and climate adaptation needs. Since 2020, the BAC Foundation, in coordination with the Governor's Office of Planning & Research, has partnered with a diverse coalition of businesses, utilities, environmental non-pro?ts, and community-based organizations to award more than $6 million in climate adaption planning grants to public policy and advocacy groups, environmental science organizations, California Native American tribes, local municipalities, and regional public entities representing under-resourced communities across California.
