Adopt a Resolution PROCLAIMING MAY 21-27, 2017 AS NATIONAL PUBLIC WORKS WEEK.

SUMMARY:
The Santa Clara Valley Water District (District) has been a participating member of the American Public Works Association (APWA) for over 40 years. District staff and District retirees have served on the board of the local APWA South Bay Area Chapter and have volunteered their time in support of APWA activities.
National Public Works Week is a celebration of the tens of thousands of men and women in North America who provide and maintain the infrastructure and services collectively known as public works. Instituted as a public education campaign by the APWA in 1960, the National Public Works Week calls attention to the importance of public works in community life.
The APWA is encouraging all APWA member agencies to designate May 21-27, 2017 as National Public Works Week. "Public Works Connect Us" is the theme of this year's campaign. APWA National encourages all APWA Chapters to energize and educate the public on the importance of the contribution of public works to their daily lives: planning, building, managing, and operating public works to bring their communities the highest possible quality of life.
This proclamation of National Public Works Week is an opportunity to support APWA National in its mission and bring awareness to our community regarding the positive impacts public works have on our quality of life. Attachment 1 is the proposed Board Resolution. Attachment 2 presents the APWA poster for this year's theme.
