RECOMMENDATION:
Recommendation
A. Receive and Discuss Information for the Upcoming San Luis & Delta-Mendota Water Authority (Authority Board Meeting),
B. *Continue position of "Oppose" on AB 1427 (Eggman) Water; Underground Storage, unless the bill is amended by the June 8th or a subsequent Authority Board meeting, to protect the availability of water to the District; and
C. *Adopt a position of "Abstain" on AB 1667 (Friedman) Agricultural Water Management Planning, as the bill is outside the District's 2017 legislative priorities.

SUMMARY:
This will be a standing item to provide a preview of topics that may be discussed at the upcoming San Luis & Delta-Mendota Water Authority Board meeting. Additional information will be posted as a supplemental agenda item.

BACKGROUND:
The San Luis & Delta-Mendota Water Authority (Authority) is a Joint Powers Authority (JPA) formed in 1990 by the Santa Clara Valley Water District (District) and 27 other federal water contractors to assume the responsibility for operation and maintenance of certain Central Valley Project (CVP) facilities south of the Delta, including Jones Pumping Plant, the Delta Mendota Canal and O'Neill Pumping Plant and Reservoir, and to provide a forum for South of Delta CVP contractors to coordinate on efforts of common interest. The Authority is governed by a 19-member Board of Directors consisting of a mixture of Board representatives and staff from its 28 member agencies. The District holds two seats which are currently filled by Directors Richard Santos and Gary Kremen, with Director John Varela and Deputy Operations Officer, Garth Hall serving as their alternates, respectively.
