Adopt the Resolution, NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH, SEPTEMBER 2017.

SUMMARY:
Every year the President of the United States issues a proclamation declaring September as National Preparedness Month. Several state and local governments including the Santa Clara Valley Water District follow suit with proclamations or resolutions that further raise awareness, urging individuals, businesses, schools, and community-based organizations to take steps toward personal preparedness to increase their ability to survive a disaster and reduce economic devastation following a major crisis.

National Preparedness Month is a grassroots campaign for action to increase community preparedness and resilience. This year's National Preparedness Month campaign focuses on the theme: "Disasters Don't Plan Ahead. You Can." This year, National Preparedness Month will be comprised of the following 4 weekly themes.

? Week 1: September 1-9 Make a Plan for Yourself, Family and Friends
? Week 2: September 10-16 Plan to Help Your Neighbor and Community
? Week 3: September 17-23 Practice and Build Out Your Plans
? Week 4: September 24-30 Get Involved! Be a Part of Something Larger

Emergency preparedness is the responsibility of every citizen of Santa Clara County. It takes a team effort to ensure that we are ready for any disaster. We are asking our employees and the public including individuals, businesses, local governments, and other organizations to improve their emergency and disaster preparedness by: visiting the Ready websites at https://www.ready.gov/prepare and https://www.listo.gov/es (Spanish); making an emergency plan; putting together an emergency supply kit; and joining in local efforts to become a community preparedness partner.
