Recommendation

Receive information on the Water Resources Management Degree Program at Gavilan College and the District’s partnership in support of the program.

 

 

Body

SUMMARY:

Gavilan College is an essential partner for the District’s workforce reliability efforts which includes continual support of BAYWORK and the Water Career Pathways Consortium.

 

The District partners with Gavilan College through district-specific programs such as our Summer Internship Program, recruitment of teachers for their program, and has hired graduates of the water resources management program into regular positions.

 

Gavilan College offers a wide range of services, including programs of community education, the liberal arts and sciences, the pre-professional, business, and career technical education. 

 

Gavilan has designed a successful Water Resources Management Degree as part of their Career Technical Education Program that provides both credit towards an Associates’ Degree in Water Resources Management or community education.

 

BACKGROUND:

 

Chair Varela met with Dr. Kathleen Rose, President of Gavilan College in July 2017. Given the opportunities to work together, the Chair requested an informational presentation for the Board.  Gavilan College will play a critical role in creating career pathways for employees at the water district. 

 

 

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

There is no financial impact from this presentation.

The recommended action does not constitute a project under CEQA because it does not have a potential for resulting in direct or reasonably foreseeable indirect physical change in the environment.
