Body
SUMMARY:
Top Ops is the "college bowl" of the water industry. Teams of one, two, or three water operators or lab personnel from all American Water Works Association (AWWA) Sections compete against each other in a fast-paced question-and-answer tournament. A moderator poses a broad range of technical questions and math problems, and the team scoring the most points in the championship round is awarded the Top Ops Championship.
The local sections held their Top Ops Competition at the Cal/Nevada AWWA Operators Symposium on March 28, 2018. Kris was new to the district and he wanted to strive to be the best he could be. He tried to form a team with his peers at the District, but it was tough to convince them to join a team with someone so new to the water industry. That's when he reached out to his friends at ACWD and asked them to join his team. After months of trying to convince them they finally agreed. The team chose the name Smooth Operators. They won the SectionTop Ops competition beating out 11 other teams. This was one of the largest turnouts of teams they have ever had participate in the Cal/Nevada section. From there they moved forward to compete at AWWA's Annual Conference and Exposition 2018 Top Ops Tournament. The annual Top Ops competition had 20 teams from throughout the nation. The Smooth Operators did an outstanding job and placed 6th.
Staff recommends the Board acknowledge Kris Cooley's dedication and commitment to the District's mission and being a leader...
